Faux leather (also known as "faux" or "vegan" leather) is often considered a low-cost alternative to genuine leather. Genuine leather is in high demand, and for good reason. Genuine leather has an alluring feel, it offers exceptional durability, and premium leather improves with age. In previous blogs, we discussed two types of faux leather: dual cast leather and bonded leather. Here, we continue to compare two other kinds of artificial leather: PU artificial leather fabric and PVC artificial leather fabric.

Pu Imitation Leather Fabric

PU leather fabrics are made by applying or laminating a 100% polyurethane finish to the substrate. Typical substrates include polyester, cotton, nylon or rayon. The rollers apply a faux grain pattern to the surface to mimic the look of genuine leather. Artificial particles are usually very homogeneous.

Pvc Faux Leather Fabric

PVC leather fabrics are very similar to PU leather fabrics. PVC leather fabrics are not polyurethane, but are made by mixing polyvinyl chloride with stabilizers (to protect), plasticizers (to soften), and lubricants (to soften), and then apply it to the substrate. Again, the base material is usually polyester, cotton, nylon or rayon.

Genuine Leather

Genuine leather is made from organic materials, typically bovine hides. The natural collagen fibers are intricately intertwined, providing superior durability over man-made, weaved products. There are numerous variations of leather with different types of finishes. Some finishes provide better protection against daily wear, however, all leather is inherently stronger due to the innate composition of the hides.
